What to Expect From Your First Helicopter Ride

Your first helicopter ride

Valhalla Helicopters

Get ready for a fantastic time on your first Valhalla Helicopters heli-tour!

Many fliers have questions about what to expect from their first helicopter ride to Kelowna wineries, local scenic attractions, and elevated picnic spots. Here’s a comprehensive look at how to get the most out of your bird’s-eye view of the stunning Okanagan.

What should I bring?

While it’s completely up to you on what you’d like to wear, we recommend comfortable footwear and bringing a light jacket for changing weather conditions and lower temperatures as we climb above the breathtaking Okanagan scenery. If you’re going on a heli-picnic, or a winery tour with lunch stop, you can bring your own picnic or purchase one of our specially curated baskets, filled to the brim with local goodies for you to enjoy. Some guests wish to toast their first ride with a glass of bubbly. If you want to bring sparkling wine along, make sure to also bring some well-wrapped glasses (plastic flutes are best) for your special celebration. And remember the camera! You’ll want to capture the exhilarating sights as we wing over our beautiful province. Learn more about our heli picnic tours and reserve a flight today.

Will there be turbulance?

Helicopters experience turbulence differently than commercial flights, but because of the sleek helicopter structuring, it is usually very mild. If you’re someone who suffers from motion sickness we suggest sitting in the middle seat, as it remains the most stable throughout the flight. If motion sickness medication is something that would help you enjoy the experience more, we recommend taking it prior to take-off. Feel free to call our office for additional information on the level of bumpiness you can expect during a particular flight.

Is it safe?

Flying in a helicopter is extremely safe! To ensure a comfortable and enjoyable first helicopter ride, we ask that you listen closely to your pilot and obey any instructions. During the flight, stay in your seat with your seatbelt fastened. Our maintenance crew takes the upkeep of our machinery very seriously; read about how it’s done and our commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards. Our pilots wear masks and gloves, and we recommend only family members or a “bubble” of trusted friends book a heli-tour together.

What will we see?

Reach for the stars—we mean the sky!—and pick the excursion that’s right for you. Explore Lake Okanagan and the local scenery. Go on a spontaneous picnic with someone special, and choose from multiple locations with breathtaking views. Get the girls together for a day of wine touring in style.
