BEETLE ERADICATION
Up until recent years, Valhalla Helicopters' logging activities were focused on conventional cut blocks and production logging, however, opportunities for this type of work have effectively evaporated in Western Canada over the past decade. Valhalla's more recent logging activity has been focused on pine beetle eradication contracts with the BC and/or Alberta governments, with Alberta contracts being the more prevalent over the past few years.Under these contracts, surveys may be conducted to identify infested trees. These flagged trees may be felled then removed by the helicopter to a landing area where they will be burned in accordance with provincial instructions and requirements. Quality inspections are conducted throughout each project to ensure the regulations are followed.
Throughout British Columbia and Alberta, Valhalla Helicopters has been treating areas of forest infected with various pests including Mountain Pine Beetle, Spruce Beetle & Fir Beetle through various methods of harvest including fall and burn, fall and peel and chipping operations. The impact of beetles on our forests and on provincial economies represents a situation of urgency, and requires an immediate response to protect ecosystem health.
